Queens Park
Queens Park is a hidden gem just a stone's throw away from the town centre (Town Hall end).
The park is open daily throughout the year although all the gates are locked at dusk; details of the park opening times can be found below:
This park has everything except playground equipment:
- Large lake for feeding the scores of ducks and swans, with many benches around the lake to relax with the view
- Large open space for kids to run around in, which is home to many events during non Covid times
- Beautifully maintained trees, flora and fauna, and pathways
- The "secret garden", a sunken garden set behind some bushes (formally the rose garden)
- Garden of Remembrance Cafe (not currently open at time of going to press due to restoration works)
You can always take your own food and drinks too and have a little picnic in the park.
Toilets on site.
No on site parking but so close to town you could park in one of the many car parks
There are 4 main entrances to the park:
- The oldest entrance, designed by J Loring-Morgan, is situated on Groundwell Road to the north of the site and was completed by 1950
- The second entrance, completed by 1953, is situated at the junction of Durham Street and Lincoln Street
- The two other entrances form part of the second phase of the park's layout and are situated on Drove Road, in the far north-east corner of the site, and York Road to the north.
