Twigs Community Gardens
WIGS Community Gardens are a colourful and vibrant addition to the heart of Swindon. They are managed by TWIGS as a resource to give people who experience mental health problems the chance to regain confidence, self-esteem and to learn new skills. The gardens provide plenty of different ideas to take home to your own garden, along with plants and craft goods to enhance it. All monies raised through sales go directly towards funding our service.
The themed gardens are the main focus of the area, they have been evolving for more than 20 years. Wherever possible art and sculpture have been incorporated to enhance the setting and showcase the creative abilities of people attending TWIGS. The gardens were described in an article for Wiltshire Life in 2010 by Anna Stowe which you can read here.
In addition to the themed gardens, our main site is made up of the following areas:
- Patio
- Heated glasshouse
- Wild Haven
- Carpentry workshop
- Port-a-cabin office
- Green wood working area
- Composting area
- Three large poly tunnels
- Plant sales section
- Chicken coup
- Ornamental fish pond
- Outdoor fitness trail
- Individual garden plots
- The Winter Garden
- Cut flower beds
- Summerhouse
The gardens are open every Monday, Wednesday and Friday (except Bank Holidays) from 10am - 3.30pm. There is a suggested donation of £2 for adults, or £1.50 for concessions, and children get in for free.
